Introduction
From the 11th century BC when the first pump was known by Archimedes, to the period of Islamic colonization in Spain with the implementation of valves as instruments for interrupting or diverting the flow of water, is the historical journey that demonstrates the importance of the use of industrial valves and pumps in the processes that have facilitated, in one way or another, the life of humans.
Why is the use of hydraulic pumps important?
The use and importance of the implementation of hydraulic pumps, starts from the statement that these instruments are responsible for moving, through the pipes, the fluids. Expressed in a more technical way, it could be said that, from their principle of operation, hydraulic pumps are instruments capable of redesigning the mechanical or electrical energy in the energy that the different fluids that can be involved need to move. An instrument such as the hydraulic pump provides the flow rate and pressure that the fluid in transit needs to fulfill its function.
Having said the above and taking up the idea of how the use of instruments such as hydraulic pumps have facilitated in one way or another the life of humans and taking into account that they are responsible for providing the necessary "thrust" of a fluid so that it can fulfill a certain function, it is interesting to give an example of some of these tasks of which hydraulic pumps are responsible:
- Bringing water up to the top of a building (water pump)
- Extracting fluids below ground (oil well or subway water extraction pump).
- Pumping liquid through systems (as in refrigeration systems [air conditioning or refrigerator]).
- Hydraulic steering on vehicles (To make 'turning' easier, we do not do all the force ourselves, but are assisted by a hydraulic pump).
- Movement and operation of mechanical shovels (on a backhoe, on a Clark, on a dump truck, etc.).
Why is the use of industrial valves important?
The purpose of industrial valves is to regulate, allow or prevent the passage of a fluid through an industrial installation or machine of any kind.
Based on the above, the current industrial panorama makes it clear that it would be impossible to imagine the non-existence of valves. And it is difficult to imagine the non-existence of these instruments if we focus on the functions of each of the elements involved in the processes in which fluids are handled. For example, pumps are in charge of producing the pressure that fluids need for their impulsion, pipes are in charge of transporting them and valves are in charge of controlling those fluids, from their entrance to their exit. Without the existence of valves, the fluids would flow through the pipes without being able to fulfill their purpose.
The importance in the use of both industrial valves and hydraulic pumps is reduced to an effective execution of processes, which, based on their risk and complexity, need these control mechanisms to develop correctly and thus fulfill their industrial and commercial purpose.
